Dream psychology

There were two little boys that I was watching. One was an infant too young to even roll over and the other was about a year old. I needed something for the boys – a parcel from their mother. So I nipped out to where my ex husband was with his family to ask him for it.

Next thing I know, I’m in an old Ford and arriving at a large house – home to a large Greek family. The ex dashes off and his mother takes me to just the front door of the property. She tells me all about it- that we would be able to see each other more often if they lived in the same town, that it was a shame that this property wasn’t now available but look how lovely it is!

Just inside the front door I could see more of a mansion than a house – from what I could see, the staircase went up several floors, the ceilings were about 8 feet high and the skirting boards were almost 2 feet tall. I said that I liked it but thought it was a bit much for a retired couple.

The outside of the mansion was a construction area! The gravel drive led to a small warehouse full of metal shelving holding Greek artefacts, construction tools and tools for home decorating. I was looking for the ex husband to take me back to the boys I was meant to be looking after!

There were people everywhere! In the warehouse I stumbled upon about five people talking about a woman’s cervix and I turned around and left. I tried to stay close enough to the car so that I would hear it if it started but it was gone when I went to look for it. I was alone it seemed and stuck far from my responsibilities at home. I was angry and lonely.

The ex must have finally collected me and I was back home. The inside of the house was under construction: the walls were dusty bare plaster, the stairs were bare and partly covered in mint green paint and there was a hole in the corner of the ceiling of our bedroom. A lobster fell through ceiling hole. As always, I had to deal with the things that my ex husband considered dirty or unpleasant, so I climbed up through the hole and found a roof garden with a bar and pallet pathway.

To my right was a swimming pool surrounded by plants and flowers surrounding the wooden path. People were frolicking in the water. The sky was bright but slightly cloudy. To my left was an al fresco restaurants serving seafood. Lush tall plants and flowers separated the diners. Busy waitresses dashed along the wooden paths. Along the left and in the corner was a tank full of lobsters. I felt irritated that so much was happening above my head and had no idea that it was there. I’m surrounded by people but feeling lonely.

It is in the deepest night that I have contemplated all the things I have thought, said and done. Why these things come to me at night probably says a lot about how the mind belittles and magnifies aspects of the personality. In sleeplessness, you see nothing, you also see everything: life themes, life lessons, ways to better approach your own thoughts, words and deeds. My name is Jade Hammer and these are the life lessons that have kept me up at night.
